20 Nov 2008 - Help us select 30 Sites in Portsmouth for new Cycle Parking

Do you cycle in Portsmouth?

Do you ever resort to chaining your bike to railings, trees, streetlights etc. because there is no convenient cycle parking?

We've been asked by the leader of the Council, Gerald Vernon-Jackson, to come up with a list of 30 sites for secure bicycle parking in the city.

By "secure" we understand that Sheffield type stands are intended and these can be in groups or ones and twos or more - near shops, restaurants, community centres, schools, stations, houses ...

So, please tell us where you'd like to see bicycle parking by clicking on the Contact Us link and we'll feed the information back to Portsmouth City Council.

Suggestions so far (with thanks to all contributors)

1. Outside Post Office Callers Office on the corner of Lower Church Path and Station Street
2. Fratton Road, near Penhale Road
3. Kingston Road, near junction with New Road. Kingston Road / Kingston Cresent corner or thereabouts
4. Mick's burger van by Churchillian, Portsdown Hill
5. Church yard at All Saints, Commercial Road (to Serve PCCS and the church)
6. At the WEA omega Centre, Omega Street
7. Palmerston Road precinct (to relieve overcrowding at the northern end and elsewhere)
8. Highland Road, Southsea, outside nos 17, 18 and 19 (near Jade Mountain Bookshop)
9. Milton Market - to replace 'butterfly' stands at Co-op. Stands needed throughout this shopping area.
10. Fratton Road: by Bridge Centre; by
11. Carnegie library; St Mary's church
12. Fratton Community centre
13. Southsea Community centre
14. Fratton Park
15. St Mary's Treatment centre
16. Elm Grove/Green Road (by Honest Politican/Tesco)
17. Eldon St / King St junction
18. Arundel Street by Job Centre (more stands needed)
19. Commercial Road, half way between Debenhams and Argos
20. Great Southsea Street, opposite India Arms
21. Southsea Seafront between Clarence Pier and Blue Reef Aquarium
22. Fratton Station
23. Goldsmith Avenue by footbridge to Fratton Station
24. Corner of Palmerston Road and Osborne Road (south side) by Nat West Bank
25. Corner of Palmerston Road and Clarendon Road outside "Subway"
